Disney World Epcot

Disney World Epcot

Walt Disney had a dream: to create a future community unlike anything else. Out of this dream, Epcot was born. Though it’s come a long way since its original conception, it’s still one of the most popular theme parks in the world. At roughly twice the size of the Magic Kingdom, you’ll need to bring your comfortable walking shoes to take in everything there is to see in the two themed areas: Future World and World Showcase.

Future World

Future World is where you’ll find the majority of the rides, plus plenty of cool technological exhibits. Take in some interesting advancements of the past, as well as some cutting edge stuff you’ll be seeing more of in years to come.

Attractions in Future World
There are numerous attractions in Future World, including some of the most thrilling options in all the Disney theme parks.

  • Spaceship Earth. Located right at the park’s entrance, this is the iconic silver globe that many compare to a golf ball. Inside you’ll find a slow moving vehicle ride that tells the history of communications.
  • The Seas with Nemo and Friends. This large aquarium has exhibits, shows, and a short ride.
  • Turtle Talk with Crush. This interactive experience allows kids to communicate directly with Crush, the talking turtle from Finding Nemo.
  • Circle of Life. This somewhat outdated film features characters from the Lion King as they teach us about conservation.
  • Living with the Land. A gentle boat ride through a unique, awe-inspiring real-life indoor plant garden.
  • Soarin’. Easily the most popular ride in Epcot, Soarin’ allows you to feel as though you’re hang gliding over California.
  • Captain EO. Brought back by popular demand, this 3D movie features songs from Michael Jackson.
  • Journey into Imagination with Figment! Go on a gentle ride with numerous special effects, including “sense-sational.”
  • Ellen’s Energy Adventure. This is a dark, gentle ride with audio-animatronic dinosaurs hosted by Ellen DeGeneres. Note that this ride takes about 35 minutes, so it’s quite the commitment, but it’s also a great way to take a break in a cool, air-conditioned ride on a hot day.
  • Mission: SPACE. Take a ride to Mars and experience space travel just like a real astronaut. There are actually 2 versions of this: one mild and one intense.
  • Test Track: Another thrilling ride, Test Track puts you in the tester’s seat as you create a car and drive it through a lab.

The World Showcase

The World Showcase surrounds the World Showcase Lagoon and features unique architecture from a wide range of countries. It’s a truly special way to learn about the cultures of countries that you may never be able to visit yourself. Note that World Showcase opens later than the rest of Epcot. Check the daily times’ guides for specifics.

Attractions in the World Showcase
There aren’t a ton of attractions within the World Showcase, as the focus is generally on authentic restaurants, fun shops, and amazing structures.

  • American Adventure. Learn about the history of the United States in this 30 minute audio-animatronic theatre show.
  • Gran Fiesta Tour. This short, gentle boat ride is located in the Mexico pavilion and follows the adventures of Donald Duck and the Three Caballeros.
  • Impressions de France. A 200 degree French travelogue movie set to classical music is a soothing, relaxing break from a hot day.
  • O Canada. Learn everything you’ve ever wanted to know about Canada in this 17 minute 360 degree film narrated by Martin Short.
  • Wonders of China. This 19 minute 360 degree movie features tons of awe-inspiring views of China.

You’ll also find KidsSpots throughout the World Showcase. These spots have special crafts that kids can complete to stay interested in the cultural aspects of the countries they’re visiting.
