Magic Kingdom

Magic Kingdom

In the opinion of many Disney World regulars, the best way to get a true feel for everything Disney World has to offer is by simply stepping into the Magic Kingdom. This park was built in 1971 and is often what people think of when they think of Disney World. There are six lands throughout this theme park, each with their own unique theme.

Adventureland

Part jungle, part tropical island, with a desert oasis thrown into the mix, Adventureland is a combination of many types of lands. You enter Adventureland from Main Street by crossing a wooden bridge and will be immediately treated to authentic landscape and unique sounds.

Two of the most popular attractions in all of the Magic Kingdom are located in Adventureland: Pirates of the Caribbean and the Jungle Cruise. Many travelers know Adventureland as the spot with the best shopping in all of Disney World, thanks to the many name brands and Pirates of the Caribbean merchandise throughout.

In just the past few years, Disney has invested millions of dollars for their largest Magic Kingdom revamp yet: creating the New Fantasyland. Here you’ll see Storybook Circus, complete with a giggling gang of clowns, new rides like the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, and new restaurants like the incredible Be Our Guest and adorable Gaston’s.

Main Street USA

When you first enter the Magic Kingdom from the front gates, you’ll walk through a tunnel that travels under the Walt Disney World Railroad and step right out onto American Main Street USA, which was created as a replica of a turn of the century main street. Complete with a City Hall and Fire Station, there are a ton of unique details here.

Though there aren’t traditional rides on Main Street USA, you will find great shops plus popular establishments like The Harmony Barber Shop. This real, working hair salon offers haircuts and mustache / beard trims. A popular choice here is the Baby’s First Haircut that comes complete with an official certificate to remember it as a “Magical Moment.”

Tomorrowland

Originally created to showcase the Imagineer’s ideas of the future, it became clear that updating this area of the Magic Kingdom would be costly and difficult. As a result, in the mid-’90s Disney changed tactics. It’s now the place where you can experience the “future” as depicted by sci-fi writers from the ’20s and ’30s. Indeed, it’s sometimes referred to as the “Future That Never Was.” You’ll see tons of neon, gleaming metal, and glass. In fact, you’ll even see metal palm trees that open and close as the sunlight increases and decreases. This is also the spot with some of the most thrilling rides and attractions of any of the lands.
