Hollywood Studios

Overview of Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Formally known as MGM Studios, Hollywood Studios has been a part of the Walt Disney World theme park family since 1989. You’ll find something for everyone in this movie-themed park: Broadway-style shows, exciting attractions, and thrilling rides. Hollywood Studios is the smallest of the theme parks in Disney World, but it’s jam-packed with exciting thrills, attractions, and shows.

Attractions in Disney’s Hollywood Studios

  • Great Movie Ride. Take this ride through the movies and relive some of the most magical moments in your favorite films.
  • Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure. An impressive playground for kids ages 4 and up, this is the perfect place for a mid-day break.
  • Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster featuring Aerosmith. This is the only roller coaster in the parks that goes upside down. In fact, it has two inversions, two corkscrews, and a loud, blasting, exhilarating soundtrack from the rock band Aerosmith.
  • Star Tours. A must-do for Star Wars lovers, this 3D motion simulator ride has numerous endings. Ride it half a dozen times and your ride will never be the same twice!
  • Toy Story Midway Mania. Easily the most popular ride in Hollywood Studios, this interactive game pits you against your family and friends.
  • Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. You’ll drop 13 stories not once, not twice, but three times in this elaborately themed Twilight Zone inspired ride.

Shows and Interactive Experiences at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

  • Voyage of the Little Mermaid. This 17 minute show tells the beloved tale of the Little Mermaid, with a few exciting special effects.
  • Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream. This walk-through exhibit features memorabilia from Walt Disney, plus a short film at the end that’s sure to bring tears to a Disney-lovers eye.
  • American Idol Experience. Inspired by the television show, this talent show offers you the chance to audition to take part in the nightly live performance where the audience choses the winners.
  • Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage. This production is Broadway-caliber and based on the Disney animated film. Note that this show takes place outside, so it’s not a great choice if you’re looking for a reprise on a hot day.
  • Fantasmic! At 28 minutes long, this evening fireworks show includes lasers, multi-media effects, and a special experience for everyone who stops by. If you’re only going to see one fireworks show in all the parks, this is a great choice, in part because it’s the only show of its kind that takes place in a seated arena.
  • Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular. Learn how incredible stunts are created and relive some of the best Indiana Jones scenes.
  • Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show! Based on the popular show at Disneyland Paris, this is a high-energy show that features motorcycles, jet skis, stunt cars, and plenty of explosions!
  • The Magic of Disney Animation. Have you ever wondered how the Disney artists created your favorite films? Take this guided tour through the former animators’ workspaces.
  • Muppet Vision 3D. One of the most beloved and classic shows in all the parks, this 25 minute 3D show is full of the zaniness you’d expect from Jim Henson.
  • Disney Junior Live on Stage. If you’re bringing younger kids, be sure to stop by this show, which is designed specifically for the preschool set and features popular characters from a variety of Disney Channel shows.

Rafiki’s Planet Watch

The only way to reach Rafiki’s Planet Watch is via steam-powered train. When you get to Rafiki’s retreat you’ll be greeted by colorful murals and interesting observation areas. This is a hands-off area, for the most part, but guests can watch through glass walls as real veterinarians feed, heal, and even perform surgery on animals.

Discovery Island

Discovery Island is actually the hub of the Animal Kingdom, and is best known for what this park is best known for: The Tree of Life. This 14-story high tree is visible from anywhere in the park and inside its base you’ll see the only show in this attraction-less area: It’s Tough to be a Bug. You can also walk through the paths around Discovery Island to discover cool animals and birds like Cotton-top tamarins and Galapagos tortoises.

Whether you’re an animal lover, a thrill-ride enthusiast, or someone who simply likes to learn about other cultures, there’s tons to do and explore in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
